Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the old and new tax regimes?
The old regime has higher rates but lets you claim deductions (80C, HRA, home-loan interest, etc.). The new regime has lower slab rates but removes most deductions. Which is better depends on how many deductions you actually claim.
What income is tax-free in India?
Under the new regime, income up to ₹3 lakh is nil-rated and a rebate under section 87A makes income up to ₹7 lakh effectively tax-free. Always check the latest budget as slabs change yearly.
Does this include cess?
Income tax in India attracts a 4% Health and Education Cess on the tax amount. The calculator applies it so the figure shown is your total liability.
