Frequently Asked Questions
How do I remove GST from a total amount?
To find the base price from a GST-inclusive total, divide by (1 + rate/100). For 18% GST on ₹11,800: 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 base, so the GST is ₹1,800. This calculator does it for you when you choose the 'remove GST' option.
What is the difference between CGST and SGST?
For an intra-state sale, the total GST is split equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state). For 18% GST, that is 9% CGST + 9% SGST. For inter-state sales it becomes a single IGST at the full rate.
Which GST rate applies to my product?
Rates depend on the HSN/SAC classification: essentials are often 5%, standard goods 12% or 18%, and luxury/sin goods 28%. Check the official CBIC rate finder if you are unsure — this tool works with whichever rate you select.
