How RD (Recurring Deposit) maturity is calculated

Each monthly deposit earns compound interest (compounded quarterly, the way banks do it) for the number of months left until maturity — so your first instalment earns the most. The maturity value is the sum of every compounded instalment:

M = Σ P × (1 + r ÷ 4)4 × tk

where P is the monthly deposit, r the annual rate (as a decimal) and tk the years remaining for the k-th instalment.

With your values above: you deposit in monthly instalments, which matures to about — earning in interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is RD maturity calculated?

Each monthly deposit earns interest for the remaining months and is compounded quarterly, so earlier deposits earn more. The calculator sums the compounded value of every instalment.

Is RD interest taxable?

Yes, RD interest is taxable at your income-tax slab, and TDS may apply if total interest crosses the bank's threshold in a financial year.

Can I miss an RD instalment?

Missing instalments usually attracts a small penalty and can reduce your maturity value. Some banks close the account after several consecutive missed payments.

What is the RD maturity formula?

Each monthly deposit P is compounded quarterly for the months remaining, so maturity M = Σ P × (1 + r/4)^(4 × t_k), where r is the annual rate and t_k is the years left for the k-th instalment. The calculator sums all instalments for you.

How much will a ₹5,000 per month RD grow to?

At 6.5% for 1 year you deposit ₹60,000 and it matures to roughly ₹62,000 (about ₹2,000 interest); over 5 years ₹3,00,000 grows to about ₹3.55 lakh. Enter your own deposit, rate and tenure above for the exact figure.
